metamorphosis
in this project the interaction of historical changes and changes in architecture are investigated. the place chosen for this investigation is the area of the former berlin castle. during the time of the german democratic republic the ruined remains of it were destroyed and replaced by the "palast der republik" ("palace of the republic"). this place was used then for cultural activities and also by the administration of the country. a few years after the german reunion it was decided to tear down the building and rebuild the old castle. the photographs of this long time project show different stages of these architectural changes which were always accompanied by intensive social discussions.
