reduction to the essential is an elementary theme for me, so it was just a logical step to also apply it to the technology required to do photography. my research in that direction finally reached the simplest form of a camera at all - the camera obscura - basically just a light-tight box with the film in it on one side and a tiny hole to project the image onto the film on the other - no lens, no complex shutter, no viewfinder. this reduction i continued to the matchbox pinhole camera, which is built just out of an ordinary matchbox, two rolls of film and some duct tape (building instructions for such a camera can be found here). since then the camera obscura in different forms and formats and the magically unsharp images only this type of camera can produce is an inherent part of my photography ...
